Pregnancy and birth
NCT has a range of policy briefings on pregnancy and birth, including briefings related to place of birth and mode of birth (see related documents below). These reflect and expand on the broad principles set out in the NCT birth policy, and present evidence on safety, effectiveness and the experiences of women and men, as well as the NCT’s position on issues. A number of shorter position statements are also available. You may also be interested in other related briefings and articles on the organisation and development of maternity services, including user involvement in the planning and monitoring of services.
Also available from NCT on the topic of pregnancy and birth are reviews of evidence, including the review on the safety of home birth, first published in NCT’s quarterly continuing professional development journal New Digest.
You may also be interested in government policy and documents from professionals bodies for the UK, England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and NICE clinical guidelines. You can also find information here on the following topics; Antenatal care, Midwifery care, Normal birth, Choice of place of birth, and Birth environment.
